I am a Ph.D. student at the University of California, Santa Barbara, studying Materials Science and Engineering. I graduated from Cedarville in 2011 with a minor in philosophy accompanying my physics degree.
I am strongly opposed to the dissolution of the philosophy department and the loss of its professors. Their influence was critical for my development into an effective and well-rounded scientific thinker, in addition to allowing me to realize that my faith and my intellectual life need not be at odds. I hope that future Christian researchers graduating from Cedarville will have the opportunity to develop the critical thinking ability and broadened perspective that philosophy is uniquely capable of providing.
